DELL ALIENWARE AREA-51m

LAPTOP

Alienware has been a commodity in the gaming market for almost two decades, setting design and engineering trends that other manufacturers are trying to follow. The all-new Alienware Area 51m (2019) was announced at CES 2019 and Dell will certainly move this product in a direction closer to Alienware's performance-hungry roots.

The Alienware Area 51m is big, beefy and incredibly powerful. It has specifications to compete with most high-end gaming desktops, but remains (pretty much) a laptop. The gaming notebook industry has been working for several years to make the most of the smallest possible form factor. Although this is an area of the market that needs to be addressed and serviced, Alienware provides a product that offers desktop performance that consumers can choose from.

Take a look at our best gaming laptop graphic here and make sure you know what is the best GPU.

Availability Price

Zone 51m will be released at the end of January for about $ 2,500 (we are not sure yet of the British price) for the basic model. If you want something more powerful, the price will easily exceed $ 3,000.

It is important to keep in mind that you will be able to enter this laptop and replace the CPU / GPU as you please. If you want to upgrade your specifications to run the latest games in a few years, you can do it without buying a brand new laptop.

Design Build: a beast

The design language of the 51m zone is radically different from the traditional Alienware styles we have known for many years. The new theme, called Alienware Legend, will offer a more elegant tone that will lose some of the aggression of the previous design, while remaining instantly recognizable as an Alienware device.

Alienware and RGB lights, just like love and marriage, go together like a horse and a carriage - they've never been in danger of getting lost in the new design, let's face it. We are happy, however, because they look great compared to the new white color in which the Area 51m is now available.

The matte black finish and the assertive RGB have long been synonymous with Alienware. Switching to a white laptop is therefore a strong decision, but certainly not a bad one, as the demographics of gaming notebook buyers has something of a much more diverse age and gender in the 1920s, the options of aesthetic personalization have been modified accordingly.

The build quality is exceptional, as you would expect from Alienware. The response of the trackpad is extremely solid while being nice and smooth, and the keyboard gives an impressive return with a little more stride than you think. We expected to see a slightly more mechanical touch on the keyboard here, but what we got is still excellent.

Alienware Area-51m: It's like a desktop gaming PC!
It also has a huge 90Wh battery. In spite of everything Dell explains that one should not expect a record autonomy: "few hours" in classic use and "45 minutes" at the most in session of games. This Alienware is not the cheapest laptop on the market - it's even the opposite with a maximum configuration that will undoubtedly exceed 5000 euros. But this is an investment that we can keep for a long time and evolve. Above all, it allows to have an uncompromised PC gamer rather easy to carry - if not, with its 3.87 kg, as light as a conventional laptop.
